I’ll let you in on a secret.
I cannot stop thinking about the lunch I packed for myself today.
The lunch that is still sitting inside my adorable Russ & Daughters lunchbox (it came with the caviar and creme de fraiche I presented my boyfriend for Valentine’s Day last year and has now become my go to lunchbox).
The lunch that I side-stepped for the earlier mentioned Chipotle...
A Weekend Recap
There was beer.
There was pizza.
There was lots of snacking (at last night’s Oscar party alone there was cheese, crackers, dill and pickle chips, bruschetta, cookies, mini turkey and bacon wraps and OHMYGOD so much more).
There was regular soda.
There was loads of wine and scotch.
There was no working out.
My first weekend since starting my new “health and fitness” plan...
So That's Why We Don't Drink So Much When We're...
At least two glasses of scotch.
At least three bottles of light beer.
At least one rum and coke.
At least one game of strip poker.
At least three or four mini slices of pizza.
Yesterday's Food Summary
It was hardly perfect, but it wasn’t awful either.
Before my boyfriend and I made it to the gym, I ate a small block of artisan cheddar cheese. This was the result of two things: an oddly stocked, mostly empty fridge (since this was before we braved Trader Joe’s yesterday) and my rumbling empty stomach by the time 2pm rolled around.
After the gym, my boyfriend and I made the...
Groceries!
My boyfriend and I went to the Trader Joe’s near Union Square today after our workout.
I do not exaggerate when - before stepping inside the store - my boyfriend and I look at each other, take a deep breath and simultaneously chant: ZEN MODE. There is no way those employees aren’t stoned out of their minds to deal with the chaos.
Combat grocery shopping aside, we were able to make...
Fun Friday
I called in sick to work today.
At around 2:30 pm, I made my way over to the gym and spent 45 minutes on the treadmill, running 800m sprints with 400m jogs in between. I covered 4.18 miles and burned 468 calories.
Damn do my legs burn now. But damn does it feel pretty good knowing why.
Second Half Of The Day
The second half of yesterday did not finish with the roaring success I had hoped it would. In support of the whole idea that perhaps your friends do keep you fat, our good friend Brandon hit me up on gchat late yesterday afternoon to ask if my boyfriend and I were back from our vacation to Puerto Rico and if so, whether we’d like to go to Baden Baden for dinner since he had a serious...
Vegan Lunch
Every Thursday, my vegan boss takes me out to lunch. I am undoubtedly a foodie (a word I kind of despise), but I am also undoubtedly not at all snobby when it comes to what I eat or at least try once.
Although I can’t ever see myself becoming totally vegan, I’ve begun to look forward to these weekly respites from my normal meat eating ways. Especially when one is fortunate enough to...

The Plan
I currently weigh 157.7 pounds (deep breath).
I want to lose 30.
I’d like to reach this by my birthday, which means I have a little over three months to reach this goal. More specifically, 13 weeks.
That means if I lose 2 pounds a week (which is, to my credit, the most weight trainers and nutritionists and other professional types will tell you is still healthy), I can lose 26 pounds...
THE FIRST DAY OF THE REST OF MY LIFE
Yes. This post’s title is a lot of dramatic. But sometimes, to initiate great things, we must think in great, exaggerated ways.
Today, this morning, my boyfriend and I finally made it to the gym. After weeks of talking about being responsible and using the mornings to go to the gym, we did it. That’s right. The alarm rang its annoying little head off at 7 am and - wait for it - we...
More and More Food
So keeping with what has become the unavoidable appetite that just won’t quit, I ended up walking to the new Middle Eastern restaurant that just opened near my office at around 4pm yesterday.
Naturally, I then proceeded to order the largest thing on the menu, the combo meat platter (chicken and lamb kebabs, rice, salad, hummus, falafels with white and hot sauce), as well as an order of...
Sensible Salad and Soup
My appetite is out of control.
It’s barely 10:30 in the morning and I am starving.
I signed onto Seamless and felt the waves of temptation: burgers, wings, breakfast sandwiches, creamy soups and pastries. I resisted, and ordered a romaine lettuce salad with six toppings (Italian tuna, chickpeas, cherry tomatoes, grilled asparagus, cucumber, red onion, scallions, alfalfa sprouts and...
Fancy Gala, Fancy Bites
Last night, my boyfriend and I attended a fancy gala where there happened to be many mini fancy finger foods. My damage included:
Pulled pork sandwiches (2)
Baked macaroni and cheese square (1)
Sushi (3)
Jicama sticks with dip (4)
Chicken, vegetable and black bean wraps (1 each)
Multiple glasses of champagne
Of course, before we even got to the gala, I was forced to realize how much weight...
Chinese and Buffalo Wings
Today, in a span of less than 4 hours, I have already devoured:
1 bowl of hot & sour soup (with fried wontons)
1 plate of chicken & broccoli with white rice
1 can of Coca Cola
10 buffalo wings and blue cheese dip
1 cup of mac & cheese
In other words, I ordered two separate lunches because I could not say no to my piggy desires.
I cannot seem to control my appetite. All I want to...
