Every Thursday, my vegan boss takes me out to lunch. I am undoubtedly a foodie (a word I kind of despise), but I am also undoubtedly not at all snobby when it comes to what I eat or at least try once.
Although I can’t ever see myself becoming totally vegan, I’ve begun to look forward to these weekly respites from my normal meat eating ways. Especially when one is fortunate enough to live in a place like New York and learns that vegan can be served in very creative, delicious ways.
Today, we went to Cafe Blossom, where I ate:
I think I did a pretty good job following the rules I set for myself earlier today. I ate about half the tempeh served with the feijoada (tempeh is a soybean product). The dessert - I am very proud to say - was delicious and there was plenty more I could have eaten but I stood firm. It was mostly apples and blueberries with a light dusting of homemade bread crumbs (which I tried to scrape off with my fork) and I did eat half of the accompanying vanilla ice cream scoop, but if I’m going to eat ice cream, the better that it’s vegan and only half a (small) scoop, yes?
Meals will be documented in photo finish form once I receive my new (replacement) phone for my old (fell into the ocean) one.
