It was hardly perfect, but it wasn’t awful either.
Before my boyfriend and I made it to the gym, I ate a small block of artisan cheddar cheese. This was the result of two things: an oddly stocked, mostly empty fridge (since this was before we braved Trader Joe’s yesterday) and my rumbling empty stomach by the time 2pm rolled around.
After the gym, my boyfriend and I made the already-documented trip to the grocery store. We of course paid the extra $5 for delivery (we don’t always opt for this - there have been many times we have lugged 5 grocery bags each onto the subway back to our apartment) but these groceries included too many heavy bags of lemons and limes and grapefruits and potatoes and what not for me to even attempt it. Welcome to grocery shopping in New York.
Since the groceries wouldn’t be delivered until 6 - 8pm, we walked over to one of our favorite quick and cheap eat spots in the East Village - Baoguette - and ordered some bahn mis (if you’re not familiar, these are Vietnamese sandwiches and perhaps the most delicious kinds of sandwiches in the world). I normally order the original (filled with delicious sorts of meat like pate and pork) but I tried the BBQ chicken bahn mi for the first time and I wasn’t mad at it. My boyfriend - fast metabolizer that he is - ordered two of the original bahn mi sandwiches for himself.
Later in the evening, on the presumption we’d be venturing out to meet up with some friendies in Tribeca, I fixed myself a rum and diet coke (this is probably not the time to go into how I - for the most part - can’t stand rum but hell, we have a handle of it due to the pina colada party we threw a few weeks ago and someone has to drink it). I also ate 1/4 or so of the second bahn mi my boyfriend had ordered earlier that day.
Once we had decided we wouldn’t be going out (my boyfriend felt too exhausted from an utter lack of sleep the night before), we decided to stay in and enjoy a little Mad Men marathon. I’m completely hooked. We’re only on season one and I am so excited we have many more seasons to go through before we’re all caught up.
The night ended with a petit bowl of Go Lean Kashi with rice milk for me and a bowl of Trader Joe’s with low fat milk for my boyfriend.
More carbs than I would have liked in one day but overall, especially for a weekend day, it probably could have been worse. I am, after all, trying to make livable changes into my life.
